Title: Fly or Die
Technique: Installation
Info: A dead fly whirling through the air like a living one over a carcass, or a flower. The installation presents a human being’s desperate attempt to breathe new life and new value into a dead animal. The result contradicts its title: the fly is dead and flying at the same time. This can be read as a commentary on the omnipresent capitalist burnout culture that permeates all areas of our lives and can lead to alienation, numbness and loss of resonance. This search for resonance also echoes the homage to Jaimie Branch embedded in the title – an homage to her aura of urgency, to standing up unconditionally for what one believes is right while remaining deeply connected to world and oneself. Or, in her own words: “walk your talk, watch your step” (–Jaimie Branch, lyrics from Burning Grey on Fly or Die Fly or Die Fly or Die ((world war))). This installation was shown at La Grenette (Sion), Kunstmuseum Luzern and La Nef St. Ursanne.
